The process of carrying a child for nine months and giving birth safely without a hiccup is seen to be a miracle.
The death toll during labor reportedly keeps soaring in the nation.
In an interview with gijonlinenews.com, a Midwifery student at the University Of Health and Allied Science, Naomesi Elizabeth expressed concerns saying a “major cause of maternal mortality is conducting of delivery in an unhygienic way. The use of unsterilized instruments, not washing hands properly amongst others introduces micro-organisms into the woman's vagina”.
She therefore called on health workers to conduct labour under hygienic conditions to safeguard the life of both the mother and her unborn child.
