2014 World cup finalist Argentina is on the verge of a humiliating group stage exit at the 2018 World Cup in Russia after losing to Croatia on Thursday night.
After a goalless first half the Croats took the lead after a howler from Chelsea backup goalie Willy Caballero, whose miskick fell to Croatian Winger Ante Rebic and found the roof of the net with a first-time volley.
Croatian Skipper Luka Modric also stunned the Argentine fans when he found the back of the net with a powerful strike from 25yards to make it 2 goals to nil in favour of Croatia.
Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic sealed the points for the Croats with a simple tap-in from six yards to make it three.
Lionel Messi and Argentina are in vital need of a win in their final group game against West African opponent Nigeria to stand a chance of making it to the next round of the World cup 2018.
