Programs Coordinator, National Refugee Board, Mr. Padi Tetteh has expressed concerns about the perception of the general public regarding refugees in the country.
As part of this year’s celebration of World Refugee Day, Mr. Tetteh in an interview on GH One TV on Wednesday, June 20, said some Ghanaians share belief that a refugee “is some hungry type looking person who is running away from war”.
This year’s World Refugee Day was under the theme “Now More Than Ever, We Stand With Refugee” to educate and urge Ghanaians to show affection and support for refugees.
According to Mr. Tetteh, there are over thirteen thousand (13,000) refugees in Ghana with about half of the population of refugees living in refugee camps whiles the others enjoy good living with Ghanaians.
He further stated there is inadequate funding for refugees and appealed to government and relevant authorities to come to their aid.
