In recent times, the demand and patronage of straw hats is experiencing a tremedous growth. The hat, which its use is to provide protection from the scorching sun has now become a fashion accessory.
The growing demand has affected the price for these hats made from straw.
In an interview with gijonlinenews.com, Bethesda a vendor who sells Fulani hats at the Osu Oxford Street in Accra, revealed that, the hats are no longer limited to just Fulani herdsmen, but has however generated a high level of patronage in the country especially among the youth in recent times.
“Prices of the hat ranges from GHc30 to GHc60 depending on the type the customer desires.”
The straw hat business has created a huge market for both weavers and tarders.
Artisans who weave these straw hats continue to reap huge amounts of profit from the demand, purchase and sale of their handiworks.
