It is an eyesore at the Central Market in Accra where traders can be seen selling food stuff close to piled rubbish near the road of the market.
GIJONLINENEWS has it that, the rubbish has been there for days.
A visit to the market is characterised by a heap of rubbish which spills over to the middle of the road where traders busily sell their products.
A trader at the market who only gave her name as Auntie Efua in an interview with gijonlinenews.com indicates the rubbish has been there for days awaiting the waste management agencies responsible for its appropriate disposal but has since not been disposed.
When probed why she still chooses to sell close to the heaped rubbish regardless of the health risks, she stated her products are purchased faster by virtue of her location compared to those who sell in the market.
“I hope it will be collected soon” she added.
Madam Lawrencia, who purchased from the market said the situation become worse whenever there was a downpour. According to her, she could have shopped at the mall for foodstuff but "food is expensive in the mall compared to the market."
Effort made to reach the authority of the market to touch on the matter proved futile.
