The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has begun a New Media Professional Certification workshop for both members and non – members of the Association.
Dubbed “BLOG 101", the training program according to the President of the GIJ chapter of the Association, Martin Thompson Ntem is aimed at equipping participants with modern day communication skills.
"The paradigm of communicating with just the traditional means is over and there is the need for communicators in this 21st Century to be abreast with new trends", he said succintly.
He added, "the workshop will take students through some valuable tips and skills in new media, such as video blogging, podcast, QR codes and blogging."
The first two sessions of the training program took place on Friday, October 29, 2016 at Lecture Halls D3 and D5 of GIJ respectively.
Mr Charles Nii Ayiku, New Media and Research Committee Chairman, IPR facilititated the first section by taking participants through Vlogging and QR codes, while Mr Richard Opong, IT lecturer(GIJ) took participants through Blogging and Podcast during the second section of the program.
Sharing their experiences, participants described the exercise as "successful and impacting".
"We had a successful program. I never regretted coming" said Emma (a level 100 student).
"I gained a lot, how to create a website on a computer without Internet and how to create website online. I will say with this workshop, I have learnt a lot and I need not to stop", another participant(Natalie, level 400) added.
The second session of the four Friday's capacity building program, BLOG 101 will come off on 7th October, 2016.
