Up-close with Mr. Kojo Bonsu-Owu: ”climbing the academic ladder has been my dream”

The saying that ‘EduIMG-20160611-WA027cation is the key to success’ has become the dream of the day. Many young ones have their dreams of climbing the academic ladder to the peak. Although we live in an environment where we have a large number of unemployed graduates, people still struggle to attain the highest levels of education.

Gijonlinenews caught up with Mr. Henry Kojo Bonsu-Owu, a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ). He told his story of how he started his education, how far he has come and his dreams for the few years to come.

According to Mr. Owu, he was born on the 7th of February, 1972 and now a married man with three kids. He started his elementary education at Forces Primary School, Burma Camp. After completion of his basic education, he continued his education since he is a hardworking, result oriented and focused man with a passion for imparting knowledge and developing human resources. He graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1998 with a first class degree in communication design. He continued and obtained Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Ghana Business School in 2005. He then moved to the University of Education Winneba where he obtained an MPhil in Communication and Media Studies.

He is currently a full time lecturer in the Public Relations and Advertising Department of the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He has an experience in the supervision of student research work (MA, Degree and Diploma). He served as a part-time lecturer at the Islamic university college and also served as a resource person with the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) from 2006-2009. He also has to his credit over fifteen years of practical experience in the field of Graphic Design, Advertising and Production Management.

Taking his future plans into consideration, he spoke about becoming a seasoned Communications consultant in the next five years and also to earn a PhD in Business Communication by 2020. Mr. Owu finally advised the young ones to take their studies serious and keep dreaming high because that is what has brought him this far.
