Centre for National Culture, Accra (Arts Centre) in collaboration with the Accra Market Association under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is organizing a program dubbed “kpataashi” (Ga word for kitchen).
As parts of the Republic Day celebration, the Arts Centre would organize a maiden cooking competition which would be contested by ten notable markets in Accra representing the ten (10) regions in Ghana.

- Novotel No 2- Brong Ahafo Region
- Kwasia Iwaso- Upper West Region
- Tema station Market- Western Region
- Freedom Market- Ashanti Region
- Alajo Market- Eastern Region
- Adabraka Market- Upper East Region
- Tuesday Market- Greater Accra Region
- Abeka Market- Volta Region
Mr Lamptey Oko, the Chief Organizer for the Arts Centre said: “the idea behind this program is to promote traditional local food and also to underscore two important statement on emphasising healthy living and domestic tourism on food”.
He also stated that, “kpataashi would be featuring consummate market men and women from ten selected markets who will cook sumptuous finger licking food from chosen traditional cuisine representing the ten regions of Ghana”.
He went further by saying, “this event would give invited guests and senior high school students the rare opportunity to interact with some of the best cooks from our market centres and also learn from them, new recipes of preparing traditional cuisine”.
There would also be a side attraction for “kpataashi”which is a “Gombe” dance competition among members of the participating markets, which would be accompanied by melodious “Gombe” tune from a popular cultural group.
Guest of honour of the occasion is the Minister for Tourism and Creative Arts Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Ajare, distinguished guest to grace this event would be Chiefs and Elders of the Ga traditional Area, Chief and Directors of selected institution.
Prizes would be advanced to top three contestants and consolation prizes would be given to the other contestants.
