Heavy rainfalls since the early hours of this morning have severely disrupted trading and business activities in Accra. The rains which started at dawn, flooded low lying parts of Accra with rain and debris. According to weathercity.com, Accra recorded between 2-4 millimetres in approximately 4 hours of rainfall.
Most shops within the Central Business District of Accra were closed whilst business in other parts of the city were disrupted. The heavy downpour also forced the closure of parts of the main highway between Airport and 37 Military Hospital. Street hawkers and vendors abandoned trading activities to seek shelter from the rains and imminent flooding.
Most hawkers who spoke to gijonlinenews expressed their frustration and fears about the heavy downpour. They were eager to avoid the June 3rd 2015 flood and fire incident at the Nkrumah Circle. “We are scared but this is our only means of livelihood so we cannot do much than be careful and go about our duties.”
Roads in residential areas of the city were not spared the damage. Click
